Lights, Camera, FASHION………..

Houston!   Get ready for the 4th Annual Design Competition and Fashion Show at Elsik High School!  As you know, for the last three years, Sew Much Fabric has developed a community service project with Elsik High School’s Fashion Design Department by creating and producing a Design Competition for students. The purpose of the competition is to raise awareness about the need for classes like this to remain in public schools.  Sew Much Fabric understands it is important to support ALL career paths for students, whether they choose to pursue a four year degree or not. Additionally, this project allows us to raise money for the Fashion Design Department’s much needed supplies.    Last year’s show was such a success that the Fashion Design Department had a waiting list for students clamoring to take the class!

Expect to get the RED CARPET TREATMENT this year!  Our theme for the 2015 show is all about Hollywood!  Guests will arrive at 6:15pm to enjoy a 30 minute Mocktail—delicious non-alcoholic beverages and some light hors d’ oeuvres.  Ladies and gentlemen I’m warning you now: paparazzi will be everywhere taking pictures of you, so come dressed to the nines as you walk the red carpet and view the designers’ portfolios!   The fashion show starts at 7pm and will feature spring 2015 fashions from casual attire to the hottest trends for prom.

The last segment of the show features the Design Competition.  The advanced design students are challenged this year is to take a character from a movie made in the 50’s 70’s or 80’s and transport the character into a garment they would wear in 2015.  This challenge incorporates a study of fashion history and how it influences today’s trends. Here are a few of the popular movies that the design students have selected:  The Godfather, Lady Sings the Blues, Seven Year Itch and Desperately Seeking Susan.

As our community service project grows, so do the prizes.  This year the first place winner will receive a $300.00 cash prize from Sew Much Fabric and a lap top computer sponsored by Shell Oil!

Excitement is building for the fashion design students as they press for the April 17th finish line.  Who will win?!  The only way to find out is to get your tickets by contacting Abigail.Rey@aliefisd.net or me at houstonsmf@aol.com.

Are you ready for your close-up?
