Couture Sewing Class Week 2

We were so fortunate to have Susan Khalje for a second class!  For most of the students, this was their first time taking Susan's couture class and they all worked really hard.  It was a great class with outstanding garments.

Sue is a custom dressmaker and the owner of J. Angelita Designs in Oakdale Minnesota. She worked on a wedding gown using the picture below for inspiration.

Deciding on the perfect lace placement for the bodice and skirt.

Ronnie was in the 1st week's couture class and continued to work on her dress in this class.
Inspiration                                    Almost there!

Carla worked on a dress for her daughter Vogue 8922 view C.

Underlining, basting and clipping on the wrong side......

.....turns into perfection on the right side!

Cheryl is an accomplished pianist and made a lovely brocade and lace dress that's perfect for her performances or any special occasion!  She used Susan Khalje's Cocktail Dress Pattern.

Love the textures together.                     Binding the armhole.

Jodi made a dress for her daughter.
She chose a beautiful silk shantung.

The piping at the neckline is a nice detail.

Jackie's project is a pretty summer dress using a printed 4-ply silk and Vogue 8996.

Underlining with silk charmeuse...              Coming together....

Becki is our Marfy aficionado!
Marfy 3379.

Becki used a teal green boucle.           The fit is just spot on!

Kasey and her husband take ballroom dancing classes.
She made a beautiful navy lace dress for their recital.

So pretty!
Wait, what is that she's holding?
Her pincushion that's color coordinated.
Love it!

Rachel is the owner of Rochelle's Workshop.  She teaches sewing and serger lessons here in Katy Tx.  She used vintage Vogue 8687.

Love this shade of  pink-coral.
Rachel is also going to make the coat using a fun print fabric.

Eileen was also in the the first week's couture class.  She was wrapping up a guipure lace pencil skirt.  Isn't that hem beautiful?!

Cynthia is the owner of ami de Paris.  She makes one-of-a kind handmade creations.  She had such an interesting project making a couture purse just perfect to carry your keys, lipstick and cell phone.

This purse has incredible details inside and out!!

The last three ladies all did Chanel jackets-Oh la la!

Briggett is an adjunct professor at HCC in the Fashion Design department.  She drafted her own pattern.  Susan perfected the fit.

Julie worked hard and matched her boucle perfectly!
A close up of her fabulous fabric and matching skills.

The Traditional Quilted Lining

Dorcas made this Chanel jacket seen in Threads Magazine.

And the lining is awesome!!!

As always, I was in awe of the incredible and beautiful work that was achieved.  I look forward to seeing everyone next year!
