TRENDING… SUMMER TO FALL JACKETS: THE TRANSITION

Marilyn Monroe made it clear that diamonds are a girls' best friend.

If you ask me, a girl can have more than one best friend.  A fabulous jacket that can see us through hot temperatures into cooler climes is definitely a best buddy. (Even Marilyn liked a good jacket!)

I carry some sort of jacket with me to the movies or the grocery store, just because these places tend to be so cold.  This helps to counterbalance the inferno outside.  Now I have started looking at these jackets in a different light. You can start making your transition into fall, by simply covering your outfit with a jacket.

We are going to leave no stone unturned when it comes to your "summer transitional jackets". Smfabric.com has you covered from causal to glamorous.

Let's talk about work first.  For the Monday-Thursday look, go for a more formal fabric to combine with your summer look, like this Navy Cotton Sateen, Chocolate Brown Menswear Wool or Stone Tropical Weight Wool.  You've got three major corporate colors with these jackets.  It would be a great idea to make a skirt or some slacks out of the same fabric.  These are classic fabrics for work.  If you're looking for some pattern ideas, how about Vogue 8845 or McCalls 6711.

Causal Fridays' have their own dress code--a more relaxed yet conservative feel.  I love the Amber Knit or Heavy Black Ponti Knit. Check out these patterns Butterick 5926, Vogue 8839 or StyleArc Marie Jacket. You will have your co-workers wondering where you bought your jacket.  You can kindly let then know--no ready to wear here, only made to order!

Now that we have gotten through the work week, lets breathe a sigh of relief and look forward to our wonderful weekend.  Denim is a staple for my summer looks--denim jackets in particular.  The Black and Blue Denim will look great as a traditional jean jacket like Butterick 5616 or StyleArc Stacie Jean Jacket; or with a non-traditional jacket like McCalls 6611.

Nothing says weekend glam wear like an animal print jacket.  Pair this Black/Grey/White Leopard Print with a pair of white jeans and you are the hottest ticket in town literally.

For a different look, check out Kauai Cotton Faille Brocade.  This fabric will look great and really jazz up an outfit.

And for the fabric that can make our look straddle the work to weekend fence--roll out Mod Squad or Black/White Micro Check. Yes, I've been telling you, black and white will be trending the duration of 2013.  So making a jacket out of one of these fabrics means you'll have a winner the rest of the year.

Transitions are great.  They give us an opportunity to try new things, get a little crazy and have fun along the way.  The jacket you make in July, can be the jacket you wear in December.

while I can't argue with cotton faille, denim or even ponte, you can't beat the jade colored leather. My office has been freeeeeezing this week so I have been wearing it most afternoons at work.
I do like that cotton faille with the leaves, and I am contemplating some more denim, loving the 100% cotton is harder to find than you would think these days.

PS. thanks for linking to that Style Arc jeans jacket, I have seen it made up and it looks great for a flattering, shapely jacket.
