Very fashion forward, this gorgeous knit is from designer Norma Kamali. The color is a muted bronze with a nice beefy hand and high sheen. This fabric has great stretch and recovery in both directions. I would best describe the look and feel as a 4-ply silk with stretch.

From the Burda pattern catalog (skirt on the left)

65"
100% Cotton Denim
Designer-Ralph Lauren
(sold out)
Prewash: The fabric was washed at a normal cycle and dried in the dryer. I steam pressed the fabric prior to cutting.

Notions: I used a 9" YKK invisible zipper for the side zipper, fusible knit interfacing for the facings, 1/4" double fold bias tape to finish the facing edges and 1/4"twill tape to prevent the waist from stretching with wear.

Alterations: There were two alterations-the waist was taken in 1.5" and the side seams were sewn at 3/8" instead of 5/8".

Construction Details: I omitted the belt carriers for my skirt, but may add them later. All fabric edges were finished by a 3 thread serger except for the waist. The facings were 100% cotton shirting that coordinated with the fabric. They were fused with the knit interfacing and also bound with the double fold bias tape.

The skirt is simple to make. The only tricky part is sewing the curves. Since this fabric had some stretch it was easy to do the curves.

I plan to wear the skirt with knit tops and coordinating blouses both tucked in and outside the skirt. If I sew the skirt again, I will sew all the seams with a 3/8" seam to allow a little more wearing ease-unless I manage to lose that 5 pounds :).

Thanks, Veronica for a wonderful review. This is a great pattern and well done!!

1st Meeting of the
Sewing Fashionistas

We had our 1st Sewing Fashionistas meeting Monday night June 8th at the Cinco Ranch Library. The Sewing Fashionistas is a group that loves to sew to keep our closets current with the fashion trends that suit our lifestyles. We discussed tracing patterns from the BWOF magazine. Everyone selected a skirt pattern and got right to work tracing.

At our next meeting in August, we will have a muslin to check for fit or finished skirts for "sew and tell".
