The Lady In Red

On Monday July 10, I got a call from Courtney, one of my nicest clients.

Courtney: "I need a formal dress to
wear by July 27."
Me: "Gulp!"

Name: Courtney Johnson Rose
Occupation: Realtor

Our inspiration was a wedding gown by Peter Langner. We selected satin backed crepe for the dress, horsehair canvas for the underlining and rayon benberg for the lining.

Elastic was used to secure the dress at the waist.

Finished hem.

A happy Courtney on Tuesday, July 25.

Fall Fashion 2006

Embelishments, sparkle and soft girly things have ruled the fashion scene for several seasons. The pendulum is moving in the other direction with a more somber and minimalist mood.
Are you ready for an 80's revival?
Top Items for Fall

Layering (please no more than 3 pieces)
Shorts for fall (really works out well for us in the south)
Wide leg/skinny leg pants
Leggings (we already had this discussion!)
Bubble skirts
Luxurious fabrics ( furs, brocades, metallics)
Colors-black/white with a shot of red, grey, olive (however in Texas you will see a lot of brown)
Shoes-ballet flats, 40's style platforms, booties (otherwise known as ankle boots)

Prestonsbaby ask about fall fashions for tall people. Tall people (like everyone else) come in many shapes and sizes. You also have to consider what is age appropriate. But if I had to pick one thing on the list it would be wide leg pants.

What will be your one "must have" for fall?

Should "Shorties" Wear Cropped Pants?

The last comment was a question about short people (this person is 5 feet if she stretches) and if they should wear cropped pants. In a word, No. Just as the word describes, croppped pants "crop" your leg. Wherever the hem stops, so do your legs. If you really want to wear cropped pants, it's best in the fall/winter so you can wear boots in the same color as the pants. This helps to elongate the leg. Oh, and yes they will be on the fashion scene this fall.

To Wear Leggings or Not To Wear Leggings That is the Question!!

I went to visit my family in Austin during the 4th of July weekend. All the fashionistas (my sister, sister-in-law, nieces, daughter, and I) went to see The Devil Wears Prada. After the movie, we talked about the new fall fashions. My sister asked me if I would wear leggings this fall. "No Way!" I said. I'm thinking these 40 plus year old thighs have no business in leggings. My sister mentioned that the Aug 2006 issue of Shop Etc. Magazine showed the editor-in-chief in leggings and she looked good. After reading the editorial I believe we are close in age and our legs are similar in shape (I probably have bigger thighs, but hey, with a long tunic who could tell!) Just because I can wear leggings should I? I didn't wear them in the 80's when I definitely could've and should've. But now? My question to you is are you going to wear leggings this fall?
